Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern & Behavioral Therapy in Orlando
Welcome! My name is Keenan Crowley a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern. I am a passionate advocate for mental health counseling here in Orlando with a strong educational credentials, holding a Master’s degree in Counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Counseling from Liberty University. My career has been shaped by diverse experiences, from working in church-related ministries to educational environments.
I specialize in helping families, teenagers, children, and adults. My therapeutic offerings include Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), which are excellent for clients of all ages, helping them explore and express their emotions in safe and creative ways. I also focus on men’s mental health, promoting treatments that meet their unique needs.
In my sessions, I put clients first and use a variety of proven techniques like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Choice Theory.
I blend these methods with faith-based values focusing on kindness, grace, and transformative change. This holistic approach ensures that I address both the emotional and spiritual needs of my clients, fostering meaningful and lasting change in their lives.
In my counseling approach, I use an integrative model that combines cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, humanistic-existential approaches and behavioral therapy , creating a comprehensive method to address mental health. This model is tailored to reflect the complexity of individual psychological issues and provides personalized therapy that recognizes the uniqueness of each client.
In the cognitive-behavioral segment of my approach, I focus on the idea that many emotional struggles stem from problematic thought patterns. I use methods like cognitive restructuring to help clients identify, challenge, and change negative thoughts and beliefs. I also apply behavioral interventions to modify harmful behaviors that can exacerbate mental health issues. This approach is particularly effective for conditions like anxiety and depression because it addresses current problems and equips clients with practical tools for change.
The psychodynamic aspect of my practice examines how the unconscious mind, early life experiences, and suppressed emotions influence current behaviors. Through techniques such as dream analysis and exploring the dynamics within therapy sessions, I guide clients to delve into their pasts. This exploration uncovers hidden patterns and unresolved conflicts that shape their emotional lives, facilitating deeper emotional healing and self-understanding.
The humanistic-existential component emphasizes self-awareness, personal growth, and exploring existential questions such as life's meaning and personal freedom. In this part of therapy, I prioritize empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. I encourage clients to explore their potential and confront life's inherent challenges, fostering personal development and self-acceptance.
My model is also distinguished by its commitment to cultural competence, ensuring that therapy respects and integrates the client’s cultural, social, and religious backgrounds. This sensitivity enriches the therapeutic process and helps avoid cultural misunderstandings that could impede progress. Additionally, I consider external factors like family dynamics and social pressures, which allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the client's environment and supports interventions that are practical and grounded in daily life.
Since my counseling model integrates various theoretical approaches, it is continuously evolving. It is designed to be adaptable, allowing for the integration of new research findings, emerging therapies, and shifts in societal norms and values. This adaptability ensures that my practice remains relevant and effective in meeting the ever-changing needs of my clients in Orlando and surrounding areas.
In summary, my integrative counseling model offers a robust, adaptable, and culturally sensitive framework for helping people understand and improve their mental health. It champions a personalized approach that respects each client's unique experiences while promoting deep personal growth and emotional healing.
